I realized early, while writing Normal Nation, that it would have to be a “living book”—one that could evolve as events unfolded and the political landscape inevitably shifted. I also wanted it to spark thoughtful, respectful exchanges about the ideas in the book, and about the ways political news either reinforces them or puts them under pressure.
That became more than a nice-to-have when, just as I was putting the final touches on the proof, Québec Premier François Legault announced he was stepping down—a development that will almost certainly reshape the dynamics heading into the next Québec election.
The book is the argument. The website and the Normal Nation Substack are where it stays current.
